Brett Lancaster of Australia surged ahead of a group of 26 riders in the waning meters and claimed the rain soaked second stage in Santa Rosa and the overall race lead. Santa Rosa-native and three-time defending race winner, Levi Leipheimer and teammate Lance Armstrong both finished in the lead group.
Tomorrow’s stage in Santa Cruz kicks off the first Breakaway Mile–a one mile walk that features cancer survivors and their support networks. The walk participants lead the way across the finish of one of the stages of the Amgen Tour of California and then have the opportunity to watch and cheer on the professional cyclists as they race toward the finish line. More details to come from the road!!
