Breakaway from Cancer – Day 4: Clovis

Our friends Laurie and Brian at the CSC booth

One of the many rewards of Breakaway is getting the chance to spend the day with some of our affiliates’ passionate supporters. Take for instance our volunteers from CSC San Francisco Bay Area: Laurie, a multiple myeloma survivor, and Brian, her supportive husband. Who better to inform people from the Bay Area about CSC than a couple who has experienced first-hand all the support the Cancer Support Community has to offer?

At the stage in Clovis, we got to participate in yet another Breakaway Mile, this time hosted by the Patient Advocate Foundation and honoring Clovis resident Susan Mott. When her 20-month-old granddaughter Madyn was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Susan set out to learn as much as she could about the disease and how she could best support her granddaughter. Susan organized and lead fundraisers and blood drives with local organizations like the Clovis Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Central California Blood Bank to help Madyn and other blood cancer patients in the community.
